Azure Synapse Monitoring

SQL Sentry accelerates performance for Azure Synapse SQL Pools

Data movement dashboard

Data movement is normal, but there are times where heavy data movement can be an indication of poorly designed queries, or incorrectly distributed tables.

With SQL Sentry you can identify data movement activity quickly and easily. Zoom in to pinpoint periods of activity, navigate to a relevant time period, and easily toggle between other diagnostic and optimization features.

Distributed queries

The idea of a query changes when working with massively parallel systems, as every query needs to be broken down to smaller pieces, and then run against the individual "compute" resources on the system.

With SQL Sentry you can view details of each massively parallel processing (MPP) query. Filter, sort, and group historical information, including query step details.

Our collection of that activity parallels our standard SQL Server query collection theme and display, allowing Performance Advisor to show all historical information in a method that allows for filtering, sorting, grouping, and other historical analysis. We also provide the distributed query step details so that this information can be reviewed along with the primary query request information.

Loads, backups, and restores

For Azure Synapse we are tracking loads processes from SSIS packages so load performance can be tracked over time, providing a display like the distributed query collection.

With SQL Sentry you can view information about both in-process and historical events through the Loads, Backups, and Restores grid.

Intelligent alerting

Save time by using Advisory Conditions, which notify you about overall data system health, distributed query performance thresholds, as well as load and backup performance.

We have provided a collection of health alerts that can be viewed by any period of time, and most importantly, can be used to generate alerts so that personnel can be immediately notified of any appliance health issues.

Event calendar

See activities in a calendar format so you can quickly identify potential resource constraint problems in massively parallel processing (MPP) systems.

Concurrency is an important aspect of performance, and with the calendar, the user is able to see all activity that is occurring at a given point in time in a graphical format that allows for quick diagnosis of potential resource constraint issues.
